Behind the Scenes: Production Runner
We took ten minutes with Production Runner Aaron Levi to find out what goes on behind the scenes of a massive show like Shortland Street.
In a nutshell, what does your job entail?
I basically assist and undertake whatever tasks are required, to ensure the smooth running of the production process.
How did you find yourself at Shortland Street?
I was working on another production, and heard about the role through a friend of mine. I did some freelance work for a while and was then offered a full time 'runner' position.
What might a typical day at work for you
involve?
Organising and picking up gear for different departments, for
example lighting equipment and cameras.
Taking actor contracts to casting agents. Transporting actors to
location shoots. Labeling, logging and storing tapes in our
archives.
I'm always busy and there is always something that needs to be
done.
How long have you worked at Shortland Street
now?
I've been fulltime with Shortland Street for 15 months now.
What's one of the best things about your job?
I would have to say the people I work with. The cast and crew
are great which makes an enjoyable environment to work in.
In fact every lunch time we have a handball competition, which is
pretty awesome.
What's the most challenging part of your job?
Trying to avoid crashing into stationary objects whilst driving the production vehicle!
