Richard Barr
Richard spent 12 years as a 1st Assistant Director on a vast number of shows including Xena: Warrior Princess, Power Rangers, Mataku and The Market, before making the leap into directing.

He has directed several episodes of Outrageous Fortune and is now currently working fulltime on Shortland Street.


Jonathan Alver

Jonathan has more than 25 years experience in theatrical, screen and event production and direction in both the UK and New Zealand, including in London's West End.

He established and led one of New Zealand's premiere arts organisations, NBR New Zealand Opera, giving him an intimate knowledge of the arts sector and a broad range of management, production, financial, sponsorship and programming expertise. 

In the last four years Jonathan has worked primarily as a television drama and major event director. 

As well as Shortland Street, Jonathan has also directed episodes of Go Girls.


Wayne Tourell

Wayne Tourell is one of Shortland Street's longest-lasting and most experienced directors having worked on the show off and on since the very beginning.

Tourell has worked as an executive producer, producer, director and writer for both film and television for almost 45 years and has the honour of being the director on the first ever New Zealand show to be nominated for an Emmy Award.

He was also the national producer for Telethon 88, the biggest telethon ever stage in New Zealand.

He spent four years as the Executive Producer for Natural History New Zealand and has worked on documentaries as well as entertainment shows for both networks.

His feature film Bonjour Timothy, which features Shortland Street alumni Angela Bloomfield and Dean O'Gorman won a raft of awards around the world, including a special Jury Prize for Best Director at the Berlin International Film Festival in 1996.
