Angela Bloomfield
Shortland Street
viewers were
first introduced to Angela Bloomfield's character,
Rachel McKenna
, when she
appeared on our screens in 1993.
One of the show's longest standing characters, Angela has helped
transform Rachel from a school girl, into a university student, bar
manager and later, a
Shortland Street clinic
employee.
Born and raised in Auckland, Angela was just 19 when she
accepted the role of Rachel McKenna.
She can still remember her first day on set, describing it as
hugely terrifying experience, but extremely exciting at the same
time.
Spending much of her 20s on the show, Angela then left briefly in 1999, but returned again between 2001 and 2002.
After taking some time off from Rachel McKenna, Angela decided to
go behind the scenes and trained as a director on the show.
She has also directed for other local productions
Go Girls and Jacksons
Wharf.
Angela has also performed in a number of feature films including
Bonjour Timothy, and The Frighteners.
She was also a contestant on the popular show Dancing with the
Stars and guest starred in the New Zealand series Ride With the
Devil.
After a brief revisit in 2007, Angela returned to the show
full-time to reprise the role Rachel McKenna in October 2009.
In 2010 Angela took to the stage, performing in Toys, a festive
play co-written by her
Shortland Street co-star
Natalie Medlock (Jill Kingsbury).
When not busy working on the show, Angela loves spending time
with her two kids and her husband, cooking, watching movies and
reading.
She is passionate about her work, and describes the cast and crew
of
Shortland Street as her second family.
