Brooke (Beth Allen) heads into uncharted territory and puts family before her career this week on Shortland Street.

When Vinnie (Pua Magasiva) threatens to make a complaint against Bree's (Rachael Blampied) workplace behaviour, Bree pleads to Brooke (Beth Allen) to get to Rachel (Angela Bloomfield) first and discredit his story.

Caught by her plight, Brooke goes into bat for her sister and is pleased when she becomes privy to information about Rachel (Angela Bloomfield) that she knows she could work in her favour.

Sure the information will solve the problem completely, Brooke takes the information straight to the DHB and is quietly satisfied when her news gets Bree off the hook and leaves Rachel to face the wrath of the DHB.

Paige's (Rachel Forman) sordid past comes back to haunt her this week on Shortland Street.

Feeling guilty about brushing off Josh (Chris Tempest), Paige is nervous when she learns she will be working with him in ED.

Starting the shift, Paige becomes disheartened when it appears that Josh is giving her the cold shoulder, seemingly disappointed about their missed date.

Trying to impress him with her medical skills, Paige is distraught when she realises that in her haste she has forgotten to sign the drug resister.

Realising her error, Paige is forced to come clean to Josh about her past with drug addiction but is left dumbfounded when she realises her confession was all in vain.

Vasa (Teuila Blakely) fails to find fulfilment this week on Shortland Street.

Reeling from Maxwell's (Robbie Magasiva) judgment that he and Ula (Frankie Adams) are better off without her, Vasa begins to believe that perhaps he is right.

Convinced that her involvement in their lives will only cause more pain and suffering, Vasa withdraws herself from the situation and is left feeling empty.

Determined to suppress her pain over losing her family, Vasa decides to throw herself into her affair with Zac (Mike Edward) but when his reaction is also less than welcoming she is left feeling emptier than ever.
