Gabrielle Jacobs is a gifted and attractive surgeon
who moved to New Zealand after an impressive career in
Australia, to be Head of Surgery at Shortland Street Hospital,
a position she previously held in Australia.
Gabrielle is a talented high achiever, yet many people find her
personal manner disconcerting.
She seems ill at ease in social situations and frequently avoids
eye contact unless absolutely necessary.
Gabrielle has Asperger's Syndrome, a type of high-functioning
autism that has allowed her tremendous achievements in her chosen
profession, yet inhibits her social skills and ability to form
many close friendships or romantic relationships.
However she is very straight forward when it comes to her own
needs and desires.
Surgeon Chris Warner dumped girlfriend at the time Libby
Jeffries to pursue a relationship with Gabrielle.
She moved in with him.
Then Gabrielle learned that Chris' ex, Rachel McKenna was
returning to Shortland Street.
Chris convinced her that she was the only woman for him, but
Gabrielle had doubts and left Chris for a lucrative position in
Zurich.
In 2011, she returned to Shortland Street hospital to find Chris
living with Rachel.
She had a short relationship with then-hospital CEO Shane Tucker but found herself attracted to Rachel McKenna's brother Jonathon.
She operated on Jonathon but the procedure left him temporarily
blind. They bonded and ended up embarking on a
relationship.
Mid July her sister Lana arrived at the hospital to work as
Callum's PA.
Jonathon broke up with Gabrielle after he realised he wasn't in love with her anymore and a devastated Gabrielle had a breakdown.
With her ex Chris' help, she got back on track but Gabrielle
still had feelings for Chris.
They ended up sleeping together after the office Christmas party
but when Gabrielle discovered Chris was still with Rachel, she
decided to move on from him.
