Newcomer Robbie Evison spends his time commuting between Tauranga and Auckland in order to fulfil his role as Shortland Street’s newest character, Toby Reynolds.
The third of three children, Robbie was born in Tauranga, but moved to Canada when he was a baby and spent three years living near the Alaskan Border. His family returned to New Zealand in 2001. Robbie also briefly resided in Cambridge whilst attending St Peter’s College.
In order to fulfil his Shortland Street commitments, Robbie now spends his week’s up in Auckland, but heads home to Mount Maunganui for the weekends. His schedule also means that he now has to do his school via correspondence.
Robbie caught the acting bug when he was in primary school, when he performed in school plays, but got his first big break when he was spotted while waiting for his sister to finish an audition and was cast in a television commercial. From there, he went on to gain a small role in the children’s movie Bridge to Terebithia.
When not busy at Shortland Street or with school work, Robbie is mad about surfing and spends every minute he can in the ocean. He also enjoys playing the guitar, skating and reading.
