Talented newbie KJ Apa never planned to be an actor so arriving on the sets of Shortland Street to film his first scenes was a surreal experience for the 16 year old.
Although KJ had dabbled in a bit of modelling, he had never imagined a career in acting and was busy focussing on his schooling at Aucklands King's College when the opportunity to audition for the role of Kane Jenkins arose through his modelling agency.
Clearly a natural talent, KJ aced the audition, was offered the role and began filming in a matter of weeks.
When not busy juggling work and his Shortland Street commitments, KJ enjoys playing sport (especially Rugby) and is a dab hand at playing the guitar.
He was born and raised in Auckland and is the youngest of three siblings.
