Amanda Billing
In casting Amanda Billing as Dr Sarah Potts, Shortland Street's producers continued the show's tradition of turning talented unknowns into stars.
Amanda grew up in Masterton, and spent her university years in
Christchurch.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts with 1st Class Honours in
Geography from the University of Canterbury, she trained at the
Christchurch College of Education and became a high school
teacher.
She then worked at several schools in Christchurch and Auckland,
teaching Geography, English and Social Studies.
Amanda has been involved in drama her whole life and prior to Shortland Street she acted in a number of professional stage productions including Cloud Nine and The Country Wife, both at Auckland's SILO Theatre.
Playing Sarah Potts is a full-time commitment, but Amanda still
finds time for her musical passion.
In 2008 Amanda played a lead role in The ThreePenny Opera at the
Maidment Theatre and she is a soloist with the well-known
Jubilation Choir.
Amanda is also a guest singer (and occasional player) in the
Wellington International Ukelele Orchestra.
In 2010 Amanda took a break from Shortland Street to star (to great
acclaim) as Sally Bowles in Cabaret.
Amanda would like to learn the harmonica next!
