Oamaru takes Sharp Town crown

We asked viewers to tell us about the places they were passionate about and featured five of the best on the show last week.

More than 10,000 people voted and the winner, Oamaru, was announced on Monday's Seven Sharp.

The Sharpest Town, as well as being decked in the glory of the title, will also play host to the Seven Sharp team for a live show.

The five competitors:

Motueka

Tucked in the Tasman Bay at the top of the South Island, Motueka was once renowned as a hippy haven, but Jehan Casinader found this haven of warm sunshine and fertile soil has sharpened up its act.

Ohakune

Standing at the feet of the central North Island's mountains, Ohakune is probably best known for après-ski and a giant carrot, but Craig Stanaway discovered there's much more to this town than novelty landmarks.

Okaihau

Maybe you're like Michael Holland and have driven past Northland's Okaihau but never thought to drop in. Well, perhaps you'll also pay more attention next time and spend some time in the sharp Kiwi town.

Te Anau

The gateway to Fiordland boasts stunning scenery, with the serene waters of Lake Te Anau surrounded by a backdrop of mountains. Brodie Kane took a visit and was blown away by the setting and the people.

Oamaru

Oamaru put its best face on to welcome back hometown boy Matt Chisholm.  With some of New Zealand's best 19th century architecture among its claims to fame, could this be New Zealand's sharpest town?
