Mike Thorpe is an accidental reporter who spent 17 years of his broadcasting life behind a microphone before moving in front of one (and a camera).
Despite leaving school with a 5th form science qualification, he says he was always destined for a career in media.
Mike joined TVNZ to work for One News in 2012 after covering the Christchurch Earthquakes for Radio Live.
His love for his job is terribly clichéd – he says he likes meeting people (we believe him).
Although he was born and bred in Hawke's Bay, Mike now feels very much a Mainlander (except at ITM Cup time).
