Science Made Simple is a series of 15 animated interstitials
produced for TVNZ 7, aimed at demystifying commonly used, but
little understood, scientific and technological jargon. The series
focuses on the sort of words viewers may read in the newspaper, but
don't always understand.
Science Made Simple recognises that even the most well-informed of
us sometimes have gaps in our knowledge, and will relish the
opportunity to have some of those gaps filled, in a clear and
entertaining way.
The words and phrases explored in Science Made Simple range widely
through the fields of physics, information technology, engineering
and social sciences.
The series tackles: Nanotechnology, Greenhouse Gases,
Bioengineering, Quantum Physics, Genetic
Modification,Thermodynamics, Cloud Computing, Biofuels, Genome,
Solar (or Photovoltaic) Cells, Web 2.0, Black Holes, the Placebo
Effect, Statistical Significance and Superconductors - and
each one in just 60 seconds!
Science Made Simple is narrated by Karen Olsen of ONE News Weather.
Karen has a background in microbiology and meteorology and came to
the ONE News Weather team from the Metservice.
Her familiarity with the subject matter has made her an ideal
choice to voice Science Made Simple, and she is thrilled to be part
of the series: "I've always been fascinated by science. Ever since
primary school. So many different fields, so broad, so many career
options. I'm sure all New Zealanders will love the series and the
quirkiness of science - who knew that cloud computing has nothing
to do with weather?"
