The church was central to the first 17 years of Kate's life. Born into a devout Christian family, and raised with very strong Christian values, she sees her move to Otago as a part of the Lord's work.
At first glance, Kate is the type of girl any parent would feel comfortable sending off to University believing that her faith will guide her in the right direction. But as Kate says she was "definitely ready" to leave home and has been looking forward to the move south for the last six months.
In fact Kate was offered a scholarship to study in Auckland, but
still chose to move to the other end of the country to study at
Otago. So, is she escaping her background or is she just determined
to make it on her own and become an independent person?
