Team New Zealand claimed two wins from two starts on the second day of the Louis Vuitton Trophy yachting regatta off Dubai today.
Racing against the French-German team ALL4ONE, Dean Barker and his crew coped better with a light and shifty breeze in the first race and recovered well from being caught on the wrong side of a wind shift in the second.
"ALL4ONE kept it close in the first race and the lead was never more than a boat length so we were never comfortable," Barker said.
The first race was always close after Barker won the start to leeward and used their control to force ALL4ONE to tack away. They steadily increased their lead over four legs to win by 23 seconds.
The second-race wind shift saw Team New Zealand trail by 10sec at the first mark.
However, they were ahead by the second mark after some aggressive attacks on the downwind run to roll over their opponents. They ultimately won by 17sec.
