The opening race of the 33rd America's Cup between Swiss defenders Alinghi and US challengers BMW Oracle, already postponed twice, has been delayed yet again, organisers said on Friday.

The best-of-three duel between the two giant multi-hulls was originally to have started on Tuesday. Saturday's planned start time of 0900 GMT has been put back to 1100 at the earliest because of expected rough conditions.

"There is a strong wind overnight which the (weather) models are saying will probably drop during the early morning," race director Harold Bennett said.

"There may be a window for us in the afternoon," he said. "We may see the seas flatten out a lot earlier but we will be out early to have a look and we will give it a fair chance."
