Team New Zealand has topped the standings after the second round-robin in yachting's Louis Vuitton Trophy in Auckland.

The eight teams now head into the elimination rounds which will use the same format as the NRL finals, the McIntyre system.

By qualifying first, Team New Zealand will race eighth placed Synergy Russian Sailing team on Wednesday and if Dean Barker's men win, they go through to the semi-finals, but if they lose they have a life.

The other team that has a life in the early part of the elimination series is the Italian syndicate, Mascalzone Latino who race against the French Aleph syndicate.

Skipper Gavin Brady says his young team has shown they have the goods to challenge for the title.

The do-or-die races feature All4One against Team Origin and Azzurra racing Artemis.
