French book out top restaurant for World Cup

The French have booked out a top Auckland restaurant for a month during the Rugby World Cup.

Kermadec at Auckland's Viaduct Harbour will become the base for the French rugby union from September 25 until October 23.

It is expected to be used by players' families, rugby administrators, diplomats and dignitaries.

Industry sources say the deal could be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. However the exact value remains unknown.

Hospitality Association chief Bruce Robertson says the booking represents the sort of surge in activity the industry had been waiting for.
