Fans dressing up for this year's rugby Sevens competition have been given a new incentive.
As sixteen teams compete for the Sevens title, off field the focus will be on costumes.
For the first time spectators will compete for $25,000 worth of dress up prizes.
While the majority of the 35,000 strong crowd will have their outfit chosen by now, everyone going to New Zealand's biggest dress-up party faces the same problem.
"Everyone comes in and says we don't want to look like everyone else but secretly they do," Auckland's First Scene costume manager Jackie Whall explains.
"If your costume is too weird people are asking - what are you? So it's a fine line between people feeling like they are doing something interesting but so other people are going to realise what it is."
That means the old classics - superheroes, pirates, gladiators, nurses and pimps - should all feature strongly once again at Westpac Stadium.
And Gemma Freeman of Wellington's Costume Company tight t-shirts and spray tans will be all the rage with groups impersonating reality TV stars from the Jersey Shore and Keeping up with the Kardashians.
The first game of the two day tournament kicks off at 1pm today with South Africa taking on the US.
And New Zealand's first match is against Scotland later this afternoon.
MetService said weather should be fine with some cloud today and sunny skies on Saturday in Wellington.
