Experienced prop Phil Vickery joined England's mounting injury list when he was ruled out for at least three months to undergo a neck operation, his club Wasps said on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old will miss next month's internationals against Australia, Argentina and New Zealand and is doubtful for the start of the Six Nations in February.
"A collective decision by Phil, the consultant, Wasps' medical team and England has been made this week to progress with surgery to his neck," Wasps said in a statement.
"This will entail a rehab period in excess of three months."
England prop Andrew Sheridan was on Monday ruled out for up to four months with a shoulder injury, joining fullback Delon Armitage, centres Riki Flutey and Jordan Turner-Hall, flanker Tom Rees and first fives Danny Cipriani and Toby Flood on the sidelines.
