Sir Graham Henry was a familiar face at Blues training today.
The former All Blacks and Blues coach began his new role for the New Zealand Rugby Union ahead of the Blues' first pre-season match against the Hurricanes in Whangarei on Saturday.
Refreshed and energised after leading the All Blacks to World Cup glory in October, Sir Graham will work as a consultant for all five New Zealand Rugby franchises.
"Nothing has really changed. The only thing that has changed is his title," Blues coach Pat Lam said of the newly knighted Sir Graham who has been a coaching mentor to him.
Lam noted there was another dignitary at training.
"We had the Mad Butcher as well so we had two sirs. We are very privileged," Lam joked.
"At this time of year he (Sir Graham ) is moving around the franchise; he's having a look through. He will watch the competition and feed back to all the franchises.
"So he was just observing what we are doing. Although he is retired he is doing everything he can to help the New Zealand franchises."
One man who won't need much advice is 2011 New Zealand Rugby Player of the Year, Jerome Kaino.
The ironman flanker is one of two World Cup winning All Blacks who will front for the Blues on Saturday. Lock Anthony Boric is the other.
Despite Kaino playing all but three minutes of the All Blacks victorious campaign, Lam thinks his key leader will handle the workload.
"It's a new year, he's had a big break, he's fit and he wants to play. He and AB [Anthony Boric] are probably in their best condition and they are ready to go," Lam said.
The other All Blacks will be bought in gradually over the following two weeks.
