All Black coach Graham Henry has made contact with Sonny Bill Williams to sound out the potential of a return home.

And while the NZRU are not said to be in formal discussions with the former NRL star, CEO Steve Tew said they are keen to talk further with the former Kiwis international.

Tew also confirmed Henry had a conversation with Williams last month, where he is reported to have given advice on what he should do.

Williams is currently playing rugby in France with Top 14 side Toulon , but he is said to be homesick and keen on a return to New Zealand in the hopes of realising his dream to play for the All Blacks.

But Tew said if Williams is keen to come home, he better be prepared for a pay cut.

He would also have to prove he is good enough to make a Super 14 team.
