All Blacks first five-eight Dan Carter's decision to re-sign with Canterbury had more to do with loyalty than money it has been revealed.

Carter - who has recently returned from an injury plagued season with French club Perpignan - had been linked with a $400,000 shift to Auckland - but decided to re-sign with Canterbury in a deal lasting until 2011.

Canterbury rugby boss Hamish Riach said there was some fairly wild speculation over Carter after the player admitted that he was unsure of his future.

But he admitted on Tuesday that despite media reports, he was relaxed about where the fans favourite future laid.

Auckland and Blues CEO Andy Dalton said the side never tabled a $400,000 offer for Carter's signature as has been reported.

Adding that when it came down to the 27-year-olds decision, his loyalty was the driving force

Meanwhile, Carter said he was happy to have made his decision.

"Christchurch has always been home for me, so it's great to have re-signed with Canterbury&..I'm looking forward to playing in a red and black jersey again and being part of the province that has given my rugby so much."
