Hurricanes stacked full of All Blacks

The brightest talent in New Zealand rugby will make his Super 14 debut from the bench when the Hurricanes take on the Blues in Friday's season opener at Albany Stadium.

Coach Colin Cooper has named Willie Ripia at first-five, ahead of Aaron Cruden in a squad brimming with All Blacks.

There's 11 past or present All Blacks in the starting 15 with Ripia having plenty of support in the backline, with every other back having played for the national team.

Victor Vito has been named at number eight with Rodney So'oialo unavailable for the next couple of rounds and he'll be joined by Scott Waldrom and Nick Crosswell in the loose.

Michael Paterson has edged 2009 All Black Bryn Evans for a spot in the second-row.

The Blues name their team later on Wednesday night.

Hurricanes: John Schwalger, Andrew Hore (captain), Neemia Tialata, Michael Paterson, Jason Eaton, Nick Crosswell, Scott Waldrom, Victor Vito, Piri Weepu, Willie Ripia, Hosea Gear, Ma'a Nonu, Conrad Smith, Tamati Ellison, Cory Jane.

Reserves: Dane Coles, Jacob Ellison, Bryn Evans, Karl Lowe, Tyson Keats, Aaron Cruden, David Smith.
