The Highlanders have stood down two players for disciplinary reasons ahead of their game against the Bulls on Sunday (NZT).
First five Michael Hobbs and flanker Adam Thomson have not been considered for selection after failing to comply with the team curfew following the Stormers game last week says the Highlanders management.
The Highlanders had a curfew following their 0-33 thrashing in Cape Town on the weekend but head coach Glenn Moore says the players didn't get back to the team hotel on time.
They weren't involved in any other incidents.
Moore says that while suspending the players was a critical decision that impacted on the whole team, it was in the end a straightforward decision to make.
"Each week you have to earn the right to play for this team.
This slip up, albeit out of character for these two guys, means
they don't get the opportunity to play this week," Moore
says.
Highlanders CEO Richard Reid is fuming. He says he is sick of
dealing with issues around young sportsman not doing the right
thing.
Reid says they have tried everything to get the message through to
their players, but they don't seem to be listening.
Coach Moore says Hobbs and Thomson would stay with the team in Pretoria to help them prepare for the match against the Bulls.
The Highlanders return to New Zealand on Sunday following the fifth-round match at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria at 4:05am NZT.
