Crusaders stick with winning formula

Published: 8:25PM Tuesday July 24, 2012 Source: ONE Sport

Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder hasn't taken any risks in naming his squad for the Super Rugby semi-final against the Chiefs in Hamilton on Friday night.

Blackadder has made only one change from the side that took down the Bulls 28-13 in Christchurch on Saturday night as he continued the policy he's employed all season of rotating the front rowers. Ben Franks comes off the bench to start on the tight head this week sending his little brother Owen to the reserves.

Kieran Read is still unavailable for selection this week as he is not fully recovered from the rib injury sustained when the Crusaders overcame the Chiefs 28-21 in Hamilton three weeks ago. That means captain Richie McCaw will again play at number eight and Matt Todd at seven.

The Crusaders have had a loss and a win to the Chiefs in the regular season this year and a win would see them progress to their second consecutive final against either the Stormers or the Sharks

Crusaders: 15-Israel Dagg, 14-Adam Whitelock, 13-Robbie Fruean, 12-Ryan Crotty, 11-Zac Guildford, 10-Dan Carter, 9-Andy Ellis, 8-Richie McCaw (c), 7-Matt Todd, 6-George Whitelock, 5-Sam Whitelock, 4-Luke Romano, 3-Ben Franks, 2-Corey Flynn, 1-Wyatt Crockett.

Reserves: Quentin McDonald, Owen Franks, Tom Donnelly, Luke Whitelock, Willi Heinz, Tom Taylor, Sean Maitland.
