The New Zealand Rugby Union will hold a meeting later today to
decide whether the Hurricanes match against the Crusaders in
Wellington on Saturday night will go ahead.
NZRU media manager Juli Clausen confirmed to tvnz.co.nz that the
possibility of the Super Rugby match being postponed, in the wake
of yesterday's deadly 6.3 magnitude earthquake in Christchurch,
will be on the agenda.
She emphasised however that the focus was still very much on people.
"The priority right now is to locate people and make sure everyone is okay before a decision is made," she said.
The Crusaders revealed one of their board members was killed in the disaster yesterday.
Crusaders CEO Hamish Riach Riach confirmed he'll be in touch with the Crusaders coaches, management and senior players to get their feelings about playing today.
He says their experience from the September earthquake when Canterbury went away to Whangarei to play Northland in the ITM Cup seemed to work okay, but they've yet to talk to everyone.
SANZAR chief executive Greg Peters said that they are looking at all options to get the Crusaders to Wellington for the match.
Communications are difficult at present but it appears that the entire Crusaders squad has been accounted for.
Peters said that it would be very difficult to postpone or cancel Saturday's match as there's no window to reschedule the match later in the season.
