The Warriors are expecting to be without veteran prop Steve Price for the start of the new NRL season.

Price's heel injury is taking longer to heal than first thought.

The veteran prop had surgery late last year on his heel but an infection in the wound has forced additional surgery.

Warriors team doctor John Mayhew says he will be unavailable for the opening rounds of the season.

He says Price has shown in the past he is a quick healer and will hopefully only miss a couple of rounds.

Mayhew says other injured players, centre Brent Tate and new skipper Simon Mannering, will be fit to play in round one but may miss some of the trials.
