Cronulla coach Ricky Stuart may be headed for a showdown with the Australian Rugby League after declaring Sharks five-eighth Trent Barrett unavailable for the end of season Kangaroo tour.

Barrett suffered a fractured eye socket and broken cheekbone in the NRL on Saturday and requires six-eight weeks rehabilitation.

While his NRL season appears over, Barrett could still be in contention for the quadrangular series with France, New Zealand and England which starts in Europe in October.

But Stuart says Barrett won't be available as he is too important to the Sharks for next year.

He says its not fair to the club to send him away on tour, risking further injury.
