Sydney Roosters Todd Carney's claims of being a reformed NRL scoundrel have been damaged by fresh accusations he was involved in setting another man's pants on fire while partying last week.

Australia's Daily Telegraph is reporting a man suffered burns to his buttock, upper thighs and scrotum after allegedly having his pants set alight on holiday in Queensland on New Year's Eve.

Police are not investigating the incident and said they would only do so if the man made a formal complaint.

The incident is not thought to be malicious.

However, it may be enough to land Carney in trouble with the Sydney Roosters if he was involved.

The club handed him a career lifeline last year by signing him to a three-year deal after the 23-year-old's past indiscretions with the Canberra Raiders.
