Matt Orford says there is "nothing sinister" in his departure from NRL high-flyers Manly to join English Super League club Bradford Bulls.
Halfback Orford, the 2008 Dally M winner, announced on Monday he will join former Sea Eagles 2008 premiership winners Steve Menzies, Glenn Hall and Heath L'Estrange at the English outfit.
"I always wanted to finish my career in England," said 31-year-old Orford in a Manly club statement.
"This opportunity came earlier than expected but the chance to play with good friends at a club which is on the rise accelerated my decision.
"There is nothing sinister in the switch. I could have remained with Manly for two more years but decided the time is right now.
"I have loved my time with the club since I returned from Melbourne Storm."
Aside from winning the Dally M, Orford guided the Sea Eagles to the 2008 NRL title, defeating his former club Melbourne in the grand final.
Orford started his NRL career with the Northern Eagles in 2000, before joining the Storm from 2001-05 then moving to Manly.
Manly coach Des Hasler says the club will begin looking for a replacement No.7 immediately, with rookie Kiwi international Kieran Foran and Queensland Cup play of the year Trent Hodkinson the main contenders.
