Bulldogs halfback Brett Kimmorley will take part in his first full-contact session later this week as he continues his recovery from a broken cheekbone.
The blue and whites have this week off after defeating Newcastle in the opening round of the NRL finals on Saturday, but Kimmorley is almost certain to face either Parramatta or the Gold Coast in a preliminary final next weekend.
Coach Kevin Moore said he would be taking his whole team through an opposed session, giving Kimmorley the chance to physically test his injury for the first time.
"We'll train throughout the week and do an opposed session probably on the weekend and we'll make a decision on the team next week," Moore said.
"We won't be bashing each other or anything but it's more about having that defence in front of you, in a game situation, coming at you, and getting your timing and your feel back."
Moore said he had no doubts his star playmaker will be up for the physical challenge on his return, saying Kimmorley was not the sort of player to go into any game half-hearted.
"I don't think gun-shy is in his terminology mate," he said.
"He's never been that sort of player, so when he steps on the field he'll be 100 percent ready for them."
In other injury news for the Bulldogs, NRL rookie of the year Jamal Idris was in a knee brace at Monday's beach session in Cronulla.
The centre injured his knee during Saturday's win over the Knights, but Moore said the teenager will be fine to line up in two week's time.
"He's got a very minor medial strain, I think it's only a grade one and he would have been right to play this week," Moore said.
"The brace on it is just to facilitate the healing process."
