New Zealand Warriors halfback Brett Seymour has been ruled out for six to eight weeks with a broken thumb, the National Rugby League club said on Saturday night.

The injury happened in the Warrior's 24-18 defeat to Gold Coast last week. Seymour continued on to the end of the match at Robina despite the injury.

The injury to the 25-year-old means he misses Saturday night's match against his former club, Cronunlla, in Auckland.

Fellow off-season recruit James Maloney will now move in to fill the halfback's role, with Joel Moon coming off a five-man bench to start at standoff.

Coach Ivan Cleary said the injury was a big disappointment for both Seymour and the club.

"Brett had done so much work to get himself ready," Cleary said in a statement.

"He played in all the trials and really impressed in those as well as the game against the Titans. We're all disappointed for him."
