Warriors coach Ivan Cleary has made it very clear that he wants Sonny Bill Williams at his club.
But that's about as much as he's willing to divulge.
Cleary told tvnz.co.nz on Thursday that he hasn't been paying much attention to reports the Warriors are trying to recruit the former Bulldogs superstar and Kiwi international.
"Actually I haven't been [paying attention to it]," he said.
"I got asked the question whether I'd be interested in having Sonny Bill here and I said yes.
"That's about as much as I had to do with it."
Earlier this week, Warriors CEO Wayne Scurrah confirmed the club is looking into securing Sonny Bill's signature.
But that may all come down to the Bulldogs, who have demanded that any NRL club who signs Williams before 2013 pay them millions of dollars in compensation due to his contract breach when he deserted the Sydney club to play rugby in France.
Sonny Bill is still officially under contract with the Dogs, but Scurrah sees the club's demands as unfair given that they already received a million dollars when he walked out in 2008.
Financial issues aside, the Warriors are aware of what a commercial success it would be to bring the play-making second rower to New Zealand.
"I would imagine he would be a commercial success in this country. And also sought after for his on-field ability as well," Scurrah said.
Scurrah has spoken with Williams' manager Khoder Nasser and is
hopeful discussions will lead to something more substantial.
