Track and Field 1500m
At just 20 years of age Wellingtonian Nick Willis is the youngest middle distance runner in New Zealand to break the 4 minute barrier and is in fact running faster than John Walker was at the same age.
The son of a Professor at Victoria University in Wellington, Nick is currently on an Athletic scholarship at the University of Michigan in the United States. He is up against Adrian Blincoe for the middle distance berth at the Athens Olympics.
Nick has always found running fast easy and remembers the shock of losing his first race at the age of 13. He is proud to be representing his country and feels it's great that a "skateboarding kid from Lower Hutt can foot it at the Olympic Games."
He has a good group of training partners in the US including Kevin Sullivan who ran fifth in the 1500 metres at the Sydney Olympics.
