Gary played by Sean Keenan
Gary is the only child of Ferris and Yvonne. He is a member of the Greenhills gang and the type of talented surfer boy Debbie and Sue dream about dating. There’s a noticeable difference between Gary and the other boys in the gang: he’s a sensitive kid who ponders life’s mysteries but he is also prone to moodiness. Gary tries his best to support his mum and stop his dad’s philandering ways but there is only so much a teenage boy can do.
Sean Keenan made his small screen debut as the loveable surf rat Lockie Leonard, the title role in the 26-part television series based on Tim Winton’s novels.
He described his first television role as one of the ‘coolest surfing dudes in literature’, but bringing the lead character to life was no easy feat. Discovered at a cold casting call, Sean brought a fresh youthfulness, maturity and enthusiasm to the role. Wholeheartedly embracing his character, Sean won praise from critics and even earned himself a TV Week Logie Award nomination for Most Outstanding New Talent in 2008.
Sean recently appeared in another Tim Winton classic, Cloudstreet alongside Stephen Curry and Essie Davis, as their son Ted Pickles.
