How The Other Half Lives

Why would a former All Black want to sleep out in the wild with 30 pigs?

For centuries, Man has travelled but never before have people adopted and remained in a destination of their choosing as they do today perfecting living the life of an immigrant. However to the outsider these immigrant communities still appear mysteriously alien and removed from mainstream life.

Former All Black and rugby league star, Marc Ellis steps into the shoes of people who have chosen to live "outside the norm".

From Friday night with the Hare Krishnas to going 2km underground with coalminers; peace rallies with hippies; praying with Muslims; and even a visit to the remote Chatham Islands, Marc gets to know some of the diverse and colourful immigrant communities. We experience what life is like within these communities, their beliefs, customs, daily practices and find out why they have chosen tolive as they do.

This hugely popular 8-part series offers as insight into "How the Other Half Lives" by breaking down preconceived stereotypes like only Marc Ellis can.
