The grand final
Joe Cotton is Pop's Ultimate Star!
She won $50,000 and a new Kia Rio.
Here's how the final went:
First up, all of the contestants from the series were reunited on
stage, singing Dragon's Young Years.
Then Matt was up, singing U2's Vertigo. Jordan said "magic
Matt.... you struggled with that one". Jordan said he hoped Matt's
performance over the series was enough to get him the votes. Peter
said Matt made a mistake, but made out he had made it "and you
can't do that".
Joe was next singing Madonna's Express Yourself. Kim said "you were
in the moment with that performance, it was a really strong
performance... It looked like you were having fun." Harry said he
liked Joe's attention to detail. "You might have just thrown down
the guantlet." Jordan said he could see her parents moving closer
to that car!
Then we checked out some of the entries from Virtual Popstar.
Nik was next, singing Careless Whisper from George Michael. Harry said "you're not the most versatile singer here, but what you do, you do very well". Jordan said Nik had got better and better every week. Peter said "you took it out of Karaoke-land and gave it something special of your own".
Then it was the group songs. First up were Nik, David, Rosita and Camillia, singing Soul 2 Soul's Back to Life. Graham said "like Tennessee Williams said, you were cats on a hot tin roof", but he would have liked to have seen Nik lead a bit more.
Next group was Joe, Keri and Ben singing Whitney Houston's I'm
Your Baby Tonight. Graham said "if passion was flashing,
cannonballs would be knocking down the walls". Kim said there would
be plenty of guys who would want to be in Ben's position, singing
with Joe and Keri.
And then it was Matt with Emily and Steve singing Stevie Wonder's
I'll Be Loving You Always. Graham said it was "superb".
Harry said the song reminded everyone what a great voice Matt
has.
Then Dom announced Matt was leaving, and it'll be Joe and Nik
singing for the title.
And in the final elimination - Nik sang Robbie Williams' Angels.
Harry said the judges would be happy for either him or Joe to win.
"You're in the zone tonight Nik." Kim said "you look like a popstar
tonight... I can't fault it". Peter also said it was
"faultless".
Then it was Joe's turn, singing Angel by Sarah McLachlan. Jordan said "brilliant Joe". Peter said "I'm so proud of you. Remember in that audition room all those years ago? So proud you're standing here." Kim said she really felt for Joe. "I could hear the tension and the nerves in that song."
And then Dom announced the winner was Joe Cotton!!!
