The Prime Minister has welcomed the Waitangi Tribunal's decision to issue an interim report on water rights by August 24, rather than make the Government wait until September.
Prime Minister John Key said: "It is great news, they are looking to accommodate our wishes and we look forward to seeing their interim report and factoring that into the overall decisions."
The Waikato Tribunal was due to report back in late September and says part of their report will have to be truncated.
Key is due to meet with the Maori Party tonight to discuss the issue.
Earlier this morning, iwi and hapu leaders met with Maori Party leadership in Wellington to discuss how they feel the Government should respond to the Waitangi Tribunal report on water.
The change in date gives the Government enough time to consider the findings and potentially sell part of Mighty River Power by the end of the year.
