The Maori Party has been left happy, with National honouring a promise it made to them after last year's election.
The 2004 Foreshore and Seabed Act will now have a designated task force set up to review it.
The law enacted in 2004 around public rights and access to foreshore areas sparked bitter protest from Maoridom.
The group aims to have all work on the issue finished by the end of next year.
Prime Minister John Key says the Maori Party will be happy it's being looked into, but is quick to add there is no commitment to the actual outcome of the review.
He says it's an important part of the confidence and supply agreement with the Maori Party.
