The National Party has selected TV producer Claudette Hauiti as its candidate for the Mangere electorate.
Hauiti will go up against Labour's Su'a William Sio for the seat in this year's election. Mangere is traditionally a Labour safe-seat.
Hauiti said she was looking forward to running a strong campaign on the issues that matter in Mangere.
"As we emerge from the recession, it has become even more important for our government to control debt so that future generations of Kiwis don't have to pick up the pieces from rash promises made in 2011," said Hauiti.
"I admire the government's efforts to blunt the sharp edges of the recession for vulnerable Kiwis, and the way the Prime Minister has handled some extremely testing times in his first three years."
Hauiti has worked in broadcasting and production roles in Maori and Pasifika media, and is currently the Executive Producer of Indigenous media for multi-media company The Gibson Group.
Hauiti is of Ngati Porou and Nga Puhi descent, and previously worked in Education in Mangere.
