With five weeks to go until polling day, two of the main candidates for the Mt Albert electorate were out on the streets.

Labour candidate David Shearer fronted the cameras as he helped Phil Goff put up hoardings.

National's Melissa Lee was also out in the constituency, with PM John Key joining her in putting up hoardings on Mt Albert Road.

The prime minister is under no illusions about how tough it will be to win Mt Albert.

"Only six months ago Labour won this seat by 10,500 votes. We know that it's a very very big struggle, it will be a huge ask but we are gonna give it," said John Key.

Act's John Boscowan also hammered up billboards in the electorate.

Act leader Rodney Hide and MP Richard Prebble were also on hand to launch Boscowan's "No More buy-elections" slogan for the campaign.

Labour's held Mt Albert for more than 60 years.
