National has nearly double the support of Labour, while Prime Minister John Key has never been so popular, the latest ONE News Colmar Brunton poll shows.
The poll shows National is still tracking towards a resounding victory just seven weeks out from the election on November 26.
While the Rugby World Cup has taken centre stage nationwide, the Government has also faced a few dramas; most recently questions about its stance on the war in Afghanistan and its handling of the economy.
But those issues have not had an impact it appears on National with its support remaining on 56%.
Labour has dropped to 30% while some of the left wing vote goes to the Green Party, which is up to 9%.
New Zealand First is well below the 5% it needs to get back into Parliament.
Act is in meltdown and has nearly melted away in the current poll. The Maori and Mana parties have little support in the party vote and United Future has no support at all this time.
What could these numbers mean for Parliament?
ONE News Political Editor Guyon Espiner said National could easily govern alone on these poll figures, and assuming electorate seats are held, they could probably add seven more seats from the Maori Party, Act and United Future.
Labour would have just 36 seats, even if you add in the Greens and Mana they do not get close to forming a Government, he said.
There is no good news for Labour when it comes to the poll result for preferred Prime Minister with John Key scoring his highest ever rating on 59%.
Phil Goff is backed by just 8% of voters.
This is all despite a pretty hostile economic climate and one which New Zealanders seem more worried about.
In August 49% of poll participants thought the economy was going to get better over the next year and 31% thought it would get worse. Now just 45% believe things will improve and 35% feel the economy will get worse.
The poll of 1008 eligible voters was taken between September 24 and September 28.
