Todd Cleaver, New Zealand's Acting Head of Mission in Suva who was expelled by Fiji's interim government , will brief Foreign Minister Murray McCully in Auckland on Friday afternoon.
Cleaver was tight lipped on his arrival at Auckland Airport on Thursday night, after he and his family flew back in the wake of the latest diplomatic row with the pacific nation.
Australia's High Commissioner James Bartley was also booted out.
In tit for tat moves, both New Zealand and Fiji and have expelled the head of each other's diplomatic missions.
In Wellington, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade officials told Fiji's acting head of mission in Wellington, Kuliniasi Seru Savou, he had been declared persona non grata.
The developments stem from the delay in processing a visa for a Fijian judge who's child needed medical treatment in New Zealand.
He is the third successive New Zealand envoy to be expelled, since Commodore Frank Bainimarama came to power.
Earlier on Thursday, Cleaver and his family were farewelled by staff and diplomatic families, and given a high-level diplomatic escort out of Suva.
