Green MP Keith Locke is not happy the government has been letting members of Myanmar's military junta study English in New Zealand.

Locke has discovered nine officials from various government ministries were sponsored by New Zealand's Foreign Affairs Ministry to undertake English language skills courses here between 2005 and 2007.

The MP says it is unacceptable given the oppressive track record of the Myanmar military regime.

He says we should not be in any way supporting a regime that has detained the country's opposition leader and has been complicit in long-running human rights abuses.
