Green MP Keith Locke
Green MP Keith Locke is appalled to find out the Security Intelligence Service (SIS) has been keeping tabs on him since he was a kid.
Locke applied under the Privacy Act to have his top-secret file released and in it, found over 400 documents dating back to when he was 11-years-old.
He says the SIS have always been on his family's heels as he is the son of prominent environmentalists and communist party members.
Keith Locke says the SIS first started watching him when he was just 11 years old because his parents were active communists.
He says we should be concerned about the lack of political control on the security services.
Locke says even after his mom stopped supporting the communist party, the SIS continued to watch her.
He says Parliament is meant to be free and open and independent from the government of the day and its agencies.
Locke's discovery has got other members of Parliament worried and they are now also applying to see what is on their files.
He says the snooping is "a distasteful intrusion into his life."
