  • Key gears up for Letterman
    PM John Key

Prime Minister John Key won't be following Britney Spears' lead and wearing a bikini to deliver the cheeky top 10 list on the Late Show with David Letterman on Thursday.

But Key may feel exposed on his spot on the show in the same week Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton appear.

They will have full length interviews, pushing issues like health care reform but Key's appearance will be to read the light hearted top 10 list - probably having to make fun of himself in the process.

When Spears appeared, wearing a bikini, she read a Top Ten list of ways the country would be different if she were president.

Free pie for everybody and being the first president since Nixon to wear eye shadow were among items.

Tourism New Zealand pushed for the spot for Key to raise the xountry's profile.

Celebrities often are invited to read the top 10.

The three million-odd a week US viewers are more likely to know who Spears is than Key and may be bemused to see the Kiwi Tourism Minister pushing his small country's wares.

Key has described the opportunity as "gold when it comes to New Zealand from a tourism point of view".

He holds the tourism portfolio and since the election he has focused on attracting more visitors to New Zealand.

Letterman has made positive remarks about New Zealand but the prime minister expects to get a hard time.
