Act Party leader Rodney Hide and his partner Louise Crome are expecting a baby.

The 53-year-old politician will marry former squash player Crome, 21 years his junior in December. Hide has been together with Crome since 2007.

He already has a 21-year-old son.

"We're both overjoyed and very excited. It ends the year on the best possible note," he told the New Zealand Herald.

The couple plan a small beach wedding for about 50 family and close friends before Christmas, followed by a short honeymoon.

The new addition is due in March.
