Act leader Rodney Hide is facing accusations he is a hypocrite when it comes to use of taxpayer money.

The Local Government Minister has confirmed he and his partner, Louise Crome attended the wedding of one of her brothers in London while ostensibly on a fact finding trip on supercities.

The trip left taxpayers with a bill of about $50,000.

Labour deputy leader Annette King says Hide's a complete hypocrite given he made his name and his political career by attacking MPs' perks.

She says having done that he needed to be incredibly clean himself - something he is failed to do.

King says under the last government, Ministers had to account for every day and every detail of their trips before they were approved.

She says it would be interesting to know what Hide told John Key before he went on the trip.

John Key says he was aware Hide was attending a number of private arrangements while in London but not a wedding.

He says it's simply a happy coincidence that he could attend it while over there for work.

The revelation comes as Hide  was forced to apologise to the Prime Minister after being caught out saying Act did all the work in government and John Key did nothing.

"I have the highest respect for the Prime Minister, and I enjoy an excellent working relationship with him and his Cabinet colleagues."

A spokesman for Key said: "We accept the apology and that is the end of the matter".

What do you think of Hide taking his girlfriend on taxpayer funded trip, especially after he previously railed against a travel fund for ex-MPs? Comment below...

The hypocrisy of Hide defies belief.

I agree with Adam that a law change is needed. MP's MUST practise what they preach. It's sad that Rodney Hyde has only changed his mind over misuse of funding because of public outcry. Taxes are not paid to pay for indulgences.

OK! while your arranging for Rodney's neck. Sack Chris Carter the little pansy, who was every bit as bad swanning around with his boyfriend, at the Tax Payers costs. He is hopeless case. I would like to see him gone by lunch time.

Good on you, Rodney, for admitting you did wrong. We all do the thing at times and it takes 'guts' to admit our wrongdoing. I accept your apology and will continue to give ACT my Party Vote in elections.
