The Government has confirmed it won't relax its sanctions against Fiji for the Rugby World Cup.

At present, all Fijian military personnel are banned from entering New Zealand which will exclude several Fijian players.

The Prime Minister said the Government hasn't changed its stance that if somebody is associated with the regime then they are subject to the travel sanctions.

"We are not looking to make a change in that area," John Key said today.

"We take those sanctions pretty seriously."

The announcement follows discussions between the International Rugby Board and Foreign Minister Murray McCully.
