The Greens say the government's bad attitude toward climate change is making New Zealanders look like bad global citizens.
Green Party co-leader Metiria Turei made the comments at a Big Bike Ride in Auckland - one of 4500 events around the world to mark the International Day of Climate Action. She says the 300-strong crowd is demanding that the government picks up its act and starts acting responsibly when it comes to climate change.
Turei says the government's attitude is putting NZ's clean green reputation at risk.
The Greens are calling on the government to start listening to New Zealanders' demands about climate change ahead of international talks in Copenhagen later this year.
Turei says the government needs to reconsider its emission reduction target to show other countries that NZ does care about the environment.
