The Government is promising pressures on Waitangi Treaty Settlements are being addressed.

The Justice Ministry's warned current resources are inadequate for both the Office of Treaty Settlements and the Waitangi Tribunal to cover all the work needed before the 2014 deadline for all treaty claims to be settled.

Treaty Negotiations Minister Chris Finlayson is aware of the problem.

He says wants the Office of Treaty Settlements properly funded but says the funding amount is a decision for the Finance Minister to make.

But he says the last thing he'd want to do in 2014 is rush things to meet a deadline.

He'd much rather do it properly and if it happens that a settlement dribbles over into 2015 or 2016, then that's the way the cookie crumbles.
